Alec made a  sensational guest appearance with Liane Carroll in December. From that performance alone he gained a large fan club. We are delighted at long last to welcome Alec for a whole evening of performance.

Despite being told he 'didn't have a musical bone in his body',
Alec was a musician at the age 10. He has
gone on to perform worldwide in over 35 stunning locations,
with some of the UK's most talented vocalists. He is looking forward
to finally performing at Annie's Jazz with his motley crew of dedicated, enthusiastic musicians.

Internationally acclaimed, Alec Pitman has performed countless gigs alongside some of the UK's leading emerging artists and is a talented force to be reckoned with.

His predominant
musical influences include the likes of
Ray Charles, Phil
Perry, George Benson and many more.

Prepare for an evening of sultry sensual saxophone, and velvety vocals with this multifaceted, unique musician and his hand picked selection of talented accompanying musicians.

The beloved comic actor Dudley Moore (1935-2002) was also one of the UK’s most dazzling, swinging jazz pianists and a composer of wit and depth.

Following their acclaimed Hoagy project, the Chris Ingham Quartet revisit Moore’s music on their new CD Dudley, with sounds from the fabulous 1960s Decca trio albums, the TV show Not Only But Also (1965-70) and the brilliant movie soundtracks for Bedazzled (1967) and 30 Is A Dangerous Age, Cynthia (1968).

“Swing, humour and poignancy...a jazz joy”

“Unfailingly tuneful and spiced with gentle harmonic guile...Dudley would have been delighted”

“A delightful CD...a worthy tribute to one of the
British jazz piano greats by a British jazz
pianist who ain't no slouch either”
Bebop Spoken Here

nifty and concise arrangements"

Jacqui Hicks - vocals
Simon Carter - piano
Phil Mulford - bass
Frosty Beedle - drums

Take four great 606 Club regulars, a collection of classic songs from their favourite artists, add some jazz and soul grooves and you have..."The Boaters Project".

Showcasing the sensational
voice of Shakatak’s Jacqui
Hicks along with former
Jamiroquai keyboard player
Simon Carter, ace session
musician Phil Mulford on bass
and original Cutting Crew
drummer Frosty Beedle, this
is a band that delivers new
twists on soul classics and
reworked jazz standards in
real style.

Born out of a regular gig in Kingston (London, not Jamaica!), this band have actually been playing together for more than 10 years, but it was only when they decided to record an album that they suddenly realised they had something they could actually take "on the road".
And so not only was the album, "The Boaters Project", released to some serious critical acclaim but at the same time a gigging Band was created!

And what a band, whose combined cv's include work with the likes of Lionel Ritchie, Matt Bianco, Beyonce, Jamiroquai, Craig David, 10CC, Corinne Bailey Rae, Ronny Jordan, Annie Lennox, Ronan Keating, Westlife, Beverley Knight, Take That, Will Young, The Bee Gees and Gloria Gaynor. The music, which encompasses work from the likes of Chaka Khan, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder and James Taylor, is beautifully crafted and quite wonderfully performed. This is a terrific band (and album!) performed by some of our favourite musicians and highly recommended.

'Jacqui Hicks - a singer of warmth, poise and intelligence
whose smoky voice is a pleasure to listen to.'

Blues, Ragtime, Hot Jazz, Songs and Dances from long ago.Highly commended multi-instrumental trio who are in constant demand all over the U.K.

Working backwards from the 1930s, the FB Pocket Orchestra explores repertoire that formed the embryo of what is now known as popular music.
The members originally began playing together simply as an exercise in exploring heritage repertoire - taking on a few informal performances and recording dates as schedules allowed.

The FBPO became an 'official' project in the spring of 2012 releasing the first album in October. Their aim is to present a contemporary slant on popular acoustic music from the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.

'Atmospheric, yet vibrant, this charming collection
of songs will make you wish you had been born
some 100 years ago. The style, glamour and
‘fabulousness’ of this era is captured
beautifully on the album.'

Alan Barnes on Sax & Carinet
Ted Beament on piano
Murray Salmon on Bass
Les Circle on Drums & guest vocalist

A classic evening of swinging jazz with one
of the best saxophonist /clarinet players in the U.K. Songs from the Charlie Parker & Art Pepper songbook with
a smattering of the American Songbook.
So looking forward to having Ted with us again.

Alan Barnes is a prolific international performer, composer, arranger, bandleader and touring soloist.

He is best known for his work on clarinet, alto and baritone sax, where he combines a formidable virtuosity with a musical expression and collaborative spirit that have few peers.

His range and brilliance have made him a “first call” for studio and live work since his precocious arrival on the scene more than thirty years ago.

His recorded catalogue is immense.  He has made over thirty albums as leader and co-leader alone, and the list of his session and side-man work includes Bjork, Bryan Ferry, Michel LeGrande, Clare Teale, Westlife, Jools Holland and Jamie Cullum. He has toured and played residencies with such diverse and demanding figures as Ruby Braff, Freddie Hubbard, Scott Hamilton, Warren Vache, Ken Peplowski, Harry Allen and Conte Candoli.

In British jazz, the young Barnes was recognized – and hired – by the established greats of the time:  Stan Tracy, John Dankworth, Kenny Baker, Bob Wilber, and Humphrey Lyttelton.  But he is equally respected for his longstanding and fruitful collaborations with contemporaries such as David Newton, Bruce Adams, and Martin Taylor.

Alan Barnes’s unique musicianship, indefatigable touring, and warm rapport with audiences have made him uniquely popular in British jazz.  He has received over 25 British Jazz Awards, most recently in 2014 for clarinet, and has twice been made BBC Jazz Musician of the Year.

I was relishing the prospect of Barnes’s casually
consummate musicianship, deadpan humour
(he could be a comedian, if jazz ever fails him),
and indomitable belief in a respected place for the
music’s rich history in this eclectic and often forgetful world.
John Fordham - The Guardian.

Sarah Barnwell is a violinist of international acclaim. Whether beautifully melodic & lyrical or fast & furious, Sarah’s playing is always exciting & delivered with a lovely tone.

The Sarah Barnwell Quartet features
outstanding musicians from around the UK.
Playing Swing, Gypsy Jazz, Folk and Blues
with authentic passion, fire and virtuosity.

Sarah is under increasing demand as a guest
with some of the world’s leading Gypsy Jazz, Swing and Folk musicians whilst her own quartet is fast becoming recognised as one of the most exciting & original, in the UK & Europe.

‘I was brought up on my parents’ tour bus, travelling all over Europe, meeting the most extraordinarily crazy and talented people!  Mum needed a backing singer, so I stepped in… aged 9. It was an incredible apprenticeship for a young musician. Writing and arranging music, recording and performing it with my quartet….. I can’t imagine doing anything else!

Sarah Barnwell Quartet plays modern acoustic music, melding it seamlessly with vintage swing, gypsy jazz and blues. Played on violin, two guitars and double bass, it sounds both fresh and authentic. Above all the musicians have fun, and that communicates itself to their audience.

Pete Long on Clarinet
Colin Good on Piano
Anthony Kerr on Vibes
Richard Pite on Drums

This quartet is an offshoot of clarinettist Peter Long's project to re-create the Benny Goodman Orchestra, which has toured the UK re-creating the famous 1938 Carnegie Hall concert to great critical acclaim.

Featuring the leading instrumentalists in this field, the quartet brings a flavour of the heady energetic optimism which is the hallmark of the early swing era.

Peter will be joined on this evening by Colin Good on piano, who is regarded as one of the finest stride piano artists anywhere, Anthony Kerr, award-winning vibraphonist, and Richard Pite, nationally renowned as the leading exponent of the Gene Krupa drum style.

It is generally agreed that the first quartet Benny Goodman led in 1936 marked a high-water mark in his creativity. It was also a landmark ensemble in the history of American culture as it was the first mixed race ensemble to play universally in public. Notable for the incredibly high energy of its performances, the quartet mixed a repertoire of jazz standards of the day such as I Got Rhythm, Sweet Sue, and Tea For Two with intricate original compositions such as Flying Home, Seven Come Eleven, and Dizzy Spells.
